NBC has announced it has ordered Get Out Alive, a new extreme adventure reality competition that will be produced and headlined by the former Man vs. Wild star.

"To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature," NBC reality chief Paul Telegdy said in a statement.  "He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits. These contestants are in for the ride of their lives!"

The network isn't revealing many details about Get Out Alive's format yet, stating only that it will "test teams of two beyond their most extreme imaginations in the wild."

"Get Out Alive will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life," Grylls said. "The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward... but first there must be some pain."

NBC has ordered eight episodes of Get Out Alive, which will premiere next summer and be co-produced by Grylls' Bear Grylls Ventures and Electus, the production company founded by former NBC reality chief Ben Silverman.
 
"Bear is the most exciting talent in the world of survival adventure today -- there is simply no one like him," Electus CEO Chris Grant added. "To be able to partner with Bear and the rest of his team is a dream come true. I believe that the synergies between our two companies are limitless and we are very excited to make programming with Bear for NBC."
 
Grylls starred in six seasons of Man vs. Wild for Discovery Channel, however the cable network terminated its relationship with the extreme outdoorsman and survival expert earlier this year after he reportedly failed to fulfill a contractual agreement to participate in two unannounced projects.

"Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him," the network said in a March statement.
 
In addition to Man vs. Wild, Grylls also starred in Worst Case Scenario for Discovery, as well as several additional specials.

NBC is currently looking for contestants for this new show and will be holding casting calls and accepting applications online.
